Grant Accountant

Job Description:

This senior level Grant Accounting position is responsible for the financial management of externally sponsored programs, which includes the preparation and submission of related financial reports and invoices, cash collections, expenditure compliance review, cost transfers, maintenance of accounts receivable, reconciliation of accounts, and program closeout for the Southern University System, Baton Rouge Campus.

Maintains financial management and fiscal control over all Federal Flow through grants with various state agencies and colleges in the State of Louisiana. Also grants funded directly through the State of Louisiana and reporting for private funding agencies.

Manage the grant budget to include authorization of all expenditures; analyze and review expenditures of funds for grants and contracts to ensure compliance; prepare and submit request for payment; monitor spending in each budget line; review and approve submitted request for budget modifications that do not require sponsor's approval; prepare invoices and drawdown for receipt of funds; execute cost transfers; prepare and submit fiscal reports as required by sponsor; collect effort certification from personnel.

Manage grant close-out process to include resolving budget discrepancies, confirm all financial and other required reports have been submitted to sponsors prior to closing program account, provide final financial report on grant spending, request deactivation of budget code in financial accounting system, and retain all documentation consistent with the record retention policies.

Confer with sponsors and contract officers in resolving budgeting and compliance issues, provide prinicipal investigators and project staff with financial and budget information.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor/Associate Comptroller.

Minimal Qualifications:

A baccalaureate degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting plus one year of professional level experience in accounting or financial auditing.
