Specialty Crop Farm Assistant
Job Description:
A Specialty Crop Farm Assistant is requested for the SU Ag Center at the University Horticultural farm site. The position is a 12-month Specialty Crop Farm Assistant position to assist the faculty in viticulture and Horticulture research. The incumbent will receive direct supervision from the faculty in the SU-AG center or higher-level authority.
The duties of the individual hired include:
- Operating farm equipment for preparing the field, planting, and maintenance
- Maintains horticultural farms, mowing grass, weed control, and maintenance General care for plants and trees including pruning, mulching, germinating seeds, transplanting seedlings, and propagation of plant materials.
- Lays out research plots, labels treatments for plants, and assists with collection of data
- Mixes chemicals according to instructions on the container label
- Ability to learn how to calibrate and precisely adjust complex farm equipment
- Ability to lift materials in the approximate range of 20 to 50 pounds
Minimun Qualifications:
Two years of experience in the general care of crops, shrubs, or plants; or farm-related equipment and machinery operation.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
College credit in agricultural courses will substitute for the required experience on the basis of one semester hour for two months of experience.

Any college hours or degree must be from a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies: the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; the New England Commission of Higher Education; the Higher Learning Commission; the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities; the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
Effective approvals SU Ag Center shall pay the worker at a rate of $28,000 on a yearly basis.
