Adjunct Faculty Member
Southern University is seeking highly motivated, dynamic, and dedicated adjunct faculty members to teach undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, engaging students, and contributing to the department’s mission of academic excellence. Adjunct Faculty are expected to support the institution's mission and vision and abide by the Faculty Handbook and college-wide policies. These positions report directly to the department chair within their respective departments and divisions.
Adjunct Faculty is a part-time position.

Instruction: Adjunct Faculty members are responsible for teaching courses as assigned and the promotion of a collegial atmosphere.

Course Preparation: Develop syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials, ensuring the content aligns with the department’s curriculum and learning outcomes.

Classroom Management: Maintain a positive, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment. Encourage student participation and foster critical thinking and academic inquiry.

Assessment & Grading: Provide timely and constructive feedback on student assignments, exams, and projects. Assess student performance in accordance with departmental grading policies.

Office Hours: Hold weekly office hours for student consultation, providing academic support and guidance.

Collaboration: Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum development, and other activities as required by the department chair.

Professional Development: Stay current in the field of study and continue professional development through research, workshops, or industry engagement.

Education: A master's degree or 18 graduate hours in the desired field of study or a related discipline from an accredited institution is required. A terminal degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) is required for teaching graduate-level courses.

Experience: Teaching experience at the undergraduate/graduate level is preferred.

Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in Canvas and Ellucian Banner is preferred.
