Urban Greening Specialist

Job Description:

 

The Urban Greening Specialist for the GREEN LAB project at Southern University is a full-time position funded by the USDA Forest Service. Under the supervision of Professor and GREEN LAB director Dr. Zhu Hua Ning, the Specialist will implement project activities such as but not limited to urban forest inventory and assessment, tree planting, maintenance, and management, conduct student education and training activities, community outreach, and other duties assigned by the supervisor for student engagement and project success.

 

Qualifications:

  • Technical proficiency in GIS and I-tree software suites, skills in urban forestry research, statistical analysis, grant writing, landscape restoration, land use planning, urban forest inventory and assessment, and urban agriculture
  • Ability to use necessary equipment and tools for tree planting, maintenance, and removal, watering and fertilizing plants, drive van and 4-wheel trucks
  • Doctoral degree in urban forestry or closely related field is desirable
  • Expertise in urban landscape restoration, urban land use planning, urban inventory assessment, ecosystem evaluation, urban agriculture, student training, and community outreach
