Media Engineer/Instructor

Job Description:

 

The Department of Mass Communication invites applicants for a full time 12-month position as a Media Engineer/Instructor for its newly renovated television and upcoming radio station, podcasting and streaming platforms. This position ensures that all media equipment and systems function efficiently and safely to support student learning, live broadcasts, recordings, and other campus media productions. The Media Engineer will oversee and maintain the technical operations of the department’s media platforms and will collaborate closely with faculty, students, and staff to support instructional and co-curricular media production. Additionally, the candidate will be required to teach one to two courses in the areas of television, radio, and/or podcasting.

 

  • Install, maintain, and repair audio, video, and broadcast equipment
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software issues for radio, TV, podcast, and livestream
  • Perform routine system checks and preventive maintenance
  • Provide engineering support for live and recorded student productions
  • Assist with the technical setup of studio, field, and remote broadcasts
  • Ensure compliance with FCC regulations and college policies
  • Manage inventories and upgrades of equipment and software
  • Maintain production spaces including TV studio, radio station, and podcast studio
  • Coordinate with vendors for repairs, purchases, and support
  • Train students and faculty on proper use of media and broadcast equipment
  • Support academic courses in broadcast journalism and media production
  • Supervise student staff or volunteers in technical roles
  • Lead or assist in technical projects
  • Maintain detailed logs and documentation of equipment and systems
  • Prepare reports and assessments for station upgrades and compliance

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Engineering, Electronics, Media Technology, or related field
  • 2-3 years of experience in a broadcast engineering, AV/IT support, or media production role
  • Strong knowledge of analog/digital audio, video systems, and IP-based streaming technologies
  • Familiarity with FCC regulations and compliance standards
  • Experience with systems such as Adobe Creative Suite, audio mixers, switchers, automation systems, and radio playout software
