Digital Accessibility Manager

Job Description:

 

The Digital Accessibility Manager serves as the lead strategist and coordinator for digital accessibility across the Southern University System. This role ensures institutional compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)., Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines by working closely with accessibility liaisons at each campus. The Manager facilitates a consistent, proactive, and collaborative approach to digital inclusion across all member institutions, providing expertise, coordination, and oversight of accessibility initiatives and digital content standards.

 

  • Provide centralized leadership in developing and maintaining digital accessibility standards and policies across all campuses within the university system.
  • Collaborate with campus-specific ADA web accessibility liaisons and IT leaders to ensure consistent application of accessibility best practices.
  • Establish a system-level governance structure for digital accessibility, including shared tools, templates, and audit practices.
  • Monitor and ensure systemwide compliance with federal accessibility laws and standards (ADA, Section 504, WCAG 2.1 AA).
  • Serve as a liaison between System administration and individual campuses, facilitating communication, training, and support across accessibility working groups.
  • Lead regular systemwide meetings or working groups with accessibility contacts from each institution to share progress, troubleshoot issues, and develop collective strategies.
  • Partner with procurement and legal to develop consistent digital accessibility language and vetting processes for third-party tools and services.
  • Develop and deliver scalable training programs for campus liaisons, web developers, instructional designers, faculty, and staff.
  • Maintain a systemwide resource hub containing accessibility documentation, toolkits, and tutorials.
  • Promote the adoption of universal design for learning (UDL) principles and inclusive practices across digital environments.
  • Oversee periodic systemwide audits of web and digital content using tools such as Siteimprove, Monsido, or similar platforms.
  • Track and report on the overall accessibility status of institutional websites, learning management systems, and other digital environments.
  • Maintain documentation of compliance efforts and provide updates to system leadership and campus executive teams.
  • Deep understanding of ADA, Section 504, WCAG 2.1 AA, and related accessibility standards.
  • Strong systems-thinking approach with experience managing cross-institutional initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and support stakeholders across varied technical and non-technical roles.
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and demonstrate the highest level of service and response.

Qualifications:

 

  • Master’s degree in one of the stated fields will substitute for two (2) years of required experience
  • Master’s degree in any field will substitute for one (1) year of required experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field will be accepted with two (2) additional years of required experience
  • Associate’s degree in one of the stated fields will be accepted with five (5) additional years of required experience.

 

 

Education Level:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Educational Technology, Disability Services, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years in digital accessibility, web development or disability compliance.
  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Minimum of 5 years in digital accessibility, web development or disability compliance.
  • Familiarity with tools such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, Siteimprove, WAVE, etc.
  • Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) or similar International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) certification.
