Director of Advancement
Job Description:
The Director of Advancement is a fundraising position that works within the College of Business to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of individual major gift prospects within the College of Business. This fundraising position reports to the Dean of the College of Business. The COB Director of Advancement’s duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of individual and corporate major and potential gift donors. Consistent personal contact and engagement with prospects and donors and securing major gifts will be required, and this will be a significant metric monitored and evaluated monthly and annually.
- Work with the College of Business Dean to develop and implement donor strategies.
- Utilize advancement support services to develop and implement donor strategies.
- Serve as the point person to coordinate firm fund-raising campaigns and take the lead in managing sponsorship activities within COB or supporting a portfolio of programs.
- Represent the COB in creating a focused and aggressive major and planned giving plan, including developing solicitation letters/proposals, documenting pledge intentions, writing timely expendable fund and endowed agreements, and regularly completing contact reports.
- Work on special projects, distinguished donor society fundraising, and capital campaigns.
- Work with the College of Business Dean on developing and implementing donor strategies.
- Assist in establishing fundraising goals and developing and promoting long-range solicitation strategies. These goals and methods will lead to participation in ongoing and programmatic relationships with Southern University COB alumni, parents, friends, corporations/foundations, faculty, and staff.
- Utilize advancement support services specific to developing a portfolio of prospects and strategically move donors to solicitation regularly. These resources include the management of a database of gift and prospect records, prospect research and files, and proposals.
- Work with faculty and staff of the College of Business and the University regarding development, COB alumni, and donor relations responsibilities.
- Serve as the College of Business resource for department chairs, associate dean, and administrative staff regarding policies and procedures related to philanthropy and COB alumni relations.
- Collaboration with college leadership, including the College Dean, Associate Dean, Department Chairs, faculty, and CEO of the Southern University Foundation, in major gift donors’ cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
- Represent the College of Business at university events, community, volunteer, and professional organizations as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Liberal Arts, Non-profit Management, or other related field is required.
- Minimum of one to three years of professional experience and relevant experience in another industry or field.
- Strong proficiency in social media, website management and other written and virtual communication skills.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, collaborative, oral, and skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and multi-task a diverse range of projects with a tireless commitment to detail.
