SULC | Associate Director of Library Services | Salary Range: $108,000 - $110,000 | Application Deadline: October 23, 2025

 

Job Description: The Associate Director of Library Services will assist the Director with administrative functions within the Law Library, including the control of all financial and human resources matters, collection development, and monitoring the supervision of public and technical services divisions.  

Functional Relationships: Works closely with the Director of the Library Services and other departments as necessary and maintains regular contact with appropriate personnel.

Essential Functions: 

  • Assist the Director of Library Services with developing short-term (12 months) and long-term (5 years) goals and objectives.
  • Assist the Director with the development of the law library organizational chart.
  • Assist the Director with the State Employee Performance Planning & Review sessions conducted by departmental supervisors
  • Conduct state employee performance planning & review sessions for departmental supervisors and other employees under your direct supervision
  • Assist the Director with recruiting, screening, hiring, and placement of all library personnel.
  • Assist the Director with the development of job descriptions for all library personnel.
  • Assist the Director in establishing library policies in consultation with the Chancellor and Library Faculty Committee and with input from students, faculty members, and library staff.
  • Represent the Law Library at workshops, conferences, and annual meetings.
  • Prepare the library budget in consultation with the Chancellor and Associate Vice Chancellor for Financial Affairs.
  • Assist with the preparation of special reports for the Chancellor, ABA, and AALL
  • Assist with developing and maintaining a library collection development policy in accordance with the accreditation requirements of ABA and AALL
  • Teach a section of legal research. 

 

Minimum Qualifications
 
  • Must possess an ABA-accredited J.D. and an ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS.  
  • Five years of professional experience
  • The candidate must exhibit academic leadership, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and exhibit sound judgment.  
  • The candidate must possess the ability to formulate, develop, and implement policies to effectively manage the administrative unit. 
  • Must have the ability to identify, resolve, and consult on a wide range of administrative and personnel issues with a clear sense of institutional needs and priorities. 
  • The candidate must possess strong organizational and management skills. 
 
Preferred Qualifications
 
  • A track record of law library scholarship or the potential to publish are preferred qualifications.
  • Candidates should have prior academic law library experience.
