SULC addition draws applause at Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

The opening of the $4.1 million building addition for the Southern University Law Center's A.A. Lenoir Hall couldn't have come at a better time.

The largest incoming class for the Law Center swelled the student body to more than 600 and the 13,400 square-feet of additional classrooms, library stacks, and seminar rooms will help to accommodate the increase.

Chancellor Freddie Pitcher, Jr., presided over the August 20 ribbon-cutting ceremony thanking the numerous individuals who helped with the project, including SULC project manager Andrea Love and facilities coordinator Angela Gaines.

The event attracted a number of Law Center supporters who gave congratulatory remarks for the occasion.

Louisiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Catherine “Kitty” Kimball said she couldn’t be more proud of SULC’s success. Chancellor Emeritus B. K. Agnihotri spoke about the Law Center’s progress over the years and SU System Vice President Tolor White reflected on facilities enhancements at the Law Center.

SU Board of Supervisors Chairman Tony Clayton congratulated Chancellor Pitcher on a tremendous job and successful tenure at the institution.

SU Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Lea Polk Montgomery joined Chancellor Pitcher in the planting of a magnolia tree in the yard between the Law Center atrium and new addition.

Distinguished law alumni and other members of the judiciary attending the ceremony were Judge Janice Clark, Judge John Michael Guidry, Judge Michael McDonald, Judge Ralph E. Tyson, Judge Jewel “Duke” Welch, and retired Judge Luke LaVergne. A tour of the facility and reception followed the ceremony.
