Miss Black Louisiana Tiffany Lloyd to serve as grand marshal for SU 2009 Homecoming Parade

Miss Black Louisiana USA 2008-2009 and Southern alumnus, Tiffany Lloyd, will be the grand marshal of Southern University, Baton Rouge's annual homecoming parade Saturday, Oct. 17.

The parade, which starts at 8 a.m., begins at the corners of Kaufman Street and Scenic Highway, then:

* heads north up Scenic Highway to Harding Boulevard

* turns right on Harding Boulevard

* continues on Harding,

make a u-turn on Harding at Pembroke Street

* travels back down Harding Boulevard

* turns left onto Scenic Highway

* ends at Kaufman.

The parade will feature the Southern University Marching Band, cheerleaders and seven marching bands, including bands from Missouri and Georgia.

Lloyd, a Ferriday native, received her master's in public administration from Southern in 2005. She was chosen Miss Black Louisiana USA in 2008 and recently represented the state of Louisiana in the 2009 Miss Black USA pageant held in August and placed 2nd runner-up in the prestigious national pageant.

Lloyd has been traveling across the country mentoring young girls and promoting her platform, "Conquering Poverty: Living a Life of Hope." She is also working on her book, "Loving the Unlovely," a self-esteem book for young women.

She has been cast as the lead in the upcoming play, "All the Women I've Loved." The play, written by Byron Harmon, senior executive producer for CNN International, will debut in January 2010.

Lloyd is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and was awarded the Keeper of the Flame and Lillian Award by the sorority for outstanding female vocalist performance.

Lloyd is currently completing her Ph.D. in public policy at Southern.
