SU Counseling Center director elected president IACS Board of Accreditation
Irvin has been involved with IACS since 2003, first serving in the role of representative for the Southern Region before becoming Vice Chair in 2008.
Irvin received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Southern University and her doctorate degree in counseling psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She became director of the University's Counseling Center in 1998.
IACS was founded in 1972 to encourage and aid counseling agencies to meet high professional standards through peer evaluation and to inform the public about counseling services that are competent, reliable, and confidential.
Southern's Counseling Center was initially accredited in 2001. It was re-accredited for an additional four years in 2005.The Counseling Center will be required to go through an on-site visit in the Spring of 2010.
The Southern University Counseling center is a Title III sponsored program.
