Tenor Aubry Bryan will present a lecture and recital on the life and music of 18th century Afro-French composer Chevalier de Saint-Georges on Tuesday, November 10, at 2 p.m., in the Recital Hall of the DeBose Music Building.
Saint-Georges became one of France's leading fencers, conductors and composers of operas, symphonies, string quartets, songs, violin concertos and violin sonatas.
Bryan has performed in operas and recitals throughout the United States and Europe. He will be assisted by Chelsea Murry, a junior soprano from Southern's Department of Music and pianist Wilfred Delphin, professor in the Department of Music at Xavier University.
Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant Marie Pauline Correa and Southern professors Fatima Chajia and Ernst Pierre will discuss their homelands during the "My Hometown" lecture series at 11 a.m., November 11, on the 3rd Floor of T.T. Allain Hall, outside room 320.
Correa, who teaches the language of Wolof at Southern, will discuss her "hometown" of Senegal.
Chajia, an assistant professor of French at Southern, will present the "hometown" of Morocco and Pierre, an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Southern, will present the "hometown" of Haiti.
The "My Hometown" series allows Fulbright Language Teaching Assistants and Southern professors the opportunity to share insight into the culture and customs of their "hometowns."
Both events are free and open to the public.
