Reaching Out to Haiti...A Message from President Freeman

A message from President Freeman regarding the recent earthquake and its aftermath

As you know, a tragic situation has unfolded in Haiti following a devastating earthquake. On behalf of the Southern University System, I offer our support and sympathy to everyone affected by the recent disaster.

Many organizations have mobilized to assist the relief efforts in Haiti, and I urge members of the Jaguar Nation to join in these efforts. The Center for International Education on the Baton Rouge campus is providing assistance through financial donations, along with other items that will aid in emergency relief. I applaud the leadership and students of the department coordinating this initiative. Should you need specific information, please contact Dr. Warner Anderson, Kristan Gordan, or Dr. Earnest Pierre at 225-771-2613.

Other members of the Southern University community will be organizing and participating in initiatives to aid Haiti in the days ahead. Additionally, the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO) is organizing a national fundraiser to assist with relief efforts. I will update you as information is received. I urge all members of the community to engage and support any legitimate relief efforts. Now more than ever our prayers and assistance are greatly needed.

Best,

Kassie Freeman Interim President SU System
