South African youth choir to perform at Southern Lab
The chorus, with students age 16-21, is coming to the Laboratory School as part of the ICOM's Kgalaletso! 2010 United States Praise Tour. The appearance provides the choir members a chance to share their gifts of music and culture while experiencing elements of the U.S. culture and educational system.
The cultural exchange will also offer an opportunity to increase awareness and understanding between the people of the United States and South Africa.
The chorus will spend the day with students and faculty from the Laboratory School who will serve as ambassadors for the day. Chorus members will shadow their assigned ambassador and participate in a tour of Southern University's Baton Rouge campus.
Southern University Laboratory School hopes the event will be the beginning of many international exchanges for the students and faculty as they work to prepare their students for a more global educational experience.
The concert is free and open to the public.
