SUBR sophomore earns national physics scholarship

Southern University and A&M College sophomore Ronald Alexander has been awarded the 2010 American Physical Society Scholarship for Minority Undergraduate Physics majors.

The award is presented by the APS Committee on Minorities in Physics based on the student's academic record in physics, their potential, and commitment to the major of physics.

Alexander, a graduate of the SU Laboratory School, is also a Space Grant Scholar student in Southern's nationally honored Timbuktu Academy.

The scholarship "means I will have more support for my education and it a means to help me become successful," the Baton Rouge native said.

The scholarship awards a stipend of $3,000, which will be paid in two installments, with the first installment in September and second in February 2011. The scholarship is to be used for education purposes only.

The APS scholarship program also includes the appointment of a local mentor who will provide advice related to physics education and career opportunities.
