Southern University Department of Visual Arts Alumni Exhibition

The Department of Visual Arts, Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, present the Visual Arts Alumni Exhibition. The exhibition is being held in conjunction with the 2010 Homecoming celebration: October 3 through 9, 2010. There are 23 alumni artists participating, exhibiting 39 works of art. The works will range from drawings, paintings, printmaking, computer graphics, mixed-media, sculptures, and digital paintings. The alumni artists exhibiting represent graduation classes from 1960 to 2010, a fifty year range of alumni artists. The elder artists exhibiting studied with notable Southern University artists/educators, Jean Paul Hubbard, Frank Hayden and Harold Cureau. Many of the younger artists exhibiting studied with the current Department of Visual Arts faculty: Anne Bigger, Robert Cox, Addie Dawson-Euba, Randell Henry, and Martin Payton.

In concurrence with the opening reception, there will be an "Artistâ's Market." The exhibiting alumni artists, and current faculty and art majors will have, prints, posters, and postcards available for purchase. The exhibition invitation, designed by 2008 art alumni, Rodrick Minor, will be for sale as a poster. Several original works from the exhibition will also be for sale. All proceeds will go towards establishing a scholarship for art majors and to support gallery programs.

Part of the entertainment for the evening, will include "Spoken Word" performances by art alumni, and current art majors.
