Southern set for International Education Week
Southern faculty and students are also asked to dress in native attire during the two-day celebration.
SU Fulbright Scholars, who are also foreign language teaching assistants, from Senegal, China, and Tanzania will pray for peace in their native languages at noon on November 15 during the campus' "Prayers for Peace" event in the front courtyard of the Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union.
One-hundred white balloons will be released into the air after the prayers have been given.
Southern students who have studied abroad will share their knowledge and experiences during an informational symposium at 10 a.m. on November 16 in the auditorium of the DeBose Music Building. Booths featuring information on study abroad centers will be on display during the symposium and Warner Anderson, SU study abroad coordinator, will be on hand to answer questions from students interested in participating in Southern's Study Abroad program.
IEW is hosted by the SU Center for International Education. The week is celebrated during the month of November.
Southern has study abroad programs in Africa, Mexico, China, and Belize. The programs offer students the opportunity to travel abroad and experience new languages and cultures through academic study, service-learning, home-stay, internships, cultural excursions, and personal growth.
Studying abroad is a life-changing experience that helps expand a student's understanding of global issues, acquire second language proficiency, shapes character, stimulates international career interest, and furthers personal and professional maturity.
