SU Alumni Conference in Atlanta, July 11-15

Hundreds of Southernites, are expected to arrive from across the globe to reconnect, reminisce, and renew the time-honored tradition of a great University and to recommit to strengthening its future.
The Atlanta Chapter of the Federation is excited to host the five-day conference that will be headquartered at the Loews Atlanta Hotel, on Peachtree Street with some events happening in the city of Atlanta.
The alumni conference kicks-off with a welcome reception at the Loews featuring an Atlanta Jazz ensemble at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11.
An opening Luncheon and College Fair will feature fellow HBCUs Clark-Atlanta University, Spelman College, Morehouse College, and Morris-Brown College on Thursday, July, 12. The luncheon includes a panel discussion on the importance of HBCUs in light of recent concerns of relevance. The State of the University assembly follows. This event is a comprehensive look at the entire Southern University System and adds an opportunity to meet with System and campus leaders.
"The Mark of the Jaguar: The Truth About Licensing" will round out the presentations for Thursday. This eye-opening and informative session, led by the Collegiate Licensing Corporation, features a full discussion on the measures the University has taken to ensure profitability from its logos and marks.
Thursday Night is Jazz at the Loews with Renee Miller, an Atlanta radio personality and a featured Jazz artist.
Friday, July 13 begins with the Life Members' Breakfast where the accomplishments and milestones of alumni will be recognized.
Friday continues with a host of workshops including, "Effective Alumni Communications," "Building an Alumni Legacy," "Nation Building (Recruitment and Mentoring)," alumni advocacy, "Southern Pride" and the new "Southern GOLD Initiative," and much more.
Friday's activities conclude with the annual Atlanta Chapter Mardi Gras Ball,"Where Bourbon Street meets Peachtree Street," with live entertainment by Gritz and Jelly Butter.
Saturday, July 14 the Atlanta Chapter will host a golf tournament beginning at 8 a.m. for golf enthusiasts. The Coaches' Corner, highlighting Southern University athletic programs will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday is also a day of shopping with "Shop Til You Drop" and "Visit ATL," that will provide a chance to visit some of Atlanta's best-known shopping areas and tourist attractions.
The Closing Awards Banquet begins at 7 p.m. This semi-formal gala culminates the conference with dinner, awards, recognitions and surprise guests and entertainment.
The conference closes on Sunday, July 15 with a worship service.
