SU System updates campus closures

Hurricane Isaac made landfall in south Louisiana as a Category I hurricane with winds of 80 mph. Downgraded to a tropical storm, Isaac produced heavy rains and winds, flooding, and major power outages throughout the affected areas.

Southern University System campuses affected by Hurricane Isaac include Southern University New Orleans (SUNO), Southern University Baton Rouge (SUBR), Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center (SU Ag Center), and Southern University Law Center (SULC). Southern University Shreveport (SUSLA) anticipated tropical storm conditions as Isaac passed through north Louisiana.

Due to conditions caused by Hurricane Isaac, all classes and activities scheduled at SUNO are canceled for Thursday, August 30 and Friday, August 31, 2012. SUNO students, faculty, and staff are expected to resume regular activity on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, following the Labor Day Holiday.

Chancellor James Llorens announced that classes at SUBR will be canceled for Thursday, August 30. Essential staff report as needed on Thursday, all staff report on Friday, August 31. SUBR does not hold classes on Fridays. Classes will resume on Tuesday, September 4.

The SU Law Center has canceled classes for Thursday, August 30 and will reopen Friday, August 31.

The Southern University System and SU Ag Center offices will remain closed through Thursday, August 30. SUS and SU AG Center staff should report to work Friday, August 31.

SUSLA Chancellor Ray Belton has announced that its Metro (downtown) and MLK branches will close on Thursday, August 30 and Friday August 31. The Shreveport campus will reopen Tuesday, September 4, at which time registration will resume.

All SUS students, faculty, and staff are asked to monitor their University email accounts, the University's social media sites, and local news to get updates concerning classes and announcements.
