'Inside the SU System' radio show returns on new station and airtime

"Inside the Southern University System" radio show returns from summer hiatus on a new station, Downtown Radio 97.7, this Sunday, September 9.

Broadcast on another radio station since 2007, the Southern University System (SUS) radio show will now air on Clear Channel Media and Entertainment's Downtown 97.7 FM on Sunday mornings from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.

The show's host, Robyn Merrick, says the one-hour program will continue to deliver the Southern University System's news and developments.

"Inside the Southern University System" will continue to connect students, alumni, and the community to the SU System by focusing on current and upcoming activities, milestones, and achievements as well as other topics of interest," said Merrick.

The show's move to Downtown Radio 97.7 is part of the new arrangement between Southern University Baton Rouge (SUBR) athletics and Clear Channel Media and Entertainment Baton Rouge.

In addition to the weekly "Inside the SU System" show, Downtown Radio 97.7 will provide full broadcast coverage of Southern University athletics including eleven football games, six home conference men's basketball games, four women's home basketball games, and four Saturday double headers for men's home baseball games.

"Southern University Athletics is proud to team-up with Downtown Radio 97.7," said William Broussard, athletic director, Southern University. "With our new broadcast radio home on Downtown Radio 97.7 and iHeartRadio, we will provide a more diverse array of options for Southern University supporters while engaging a wider and more diverse base of potential new fans and supporters."

Southern University sports broadcasts also will be featured on iHeartRadio and football games will be replayed on Sundays at 2 p.m. on Hallelujah 1210 AM.

"This broadcast coverage is part of Downtown Radio 97.7's commitment to embracing the community and the city of Baton Rouge," said Michael Hudson, regional market manager, Clear Channel Media and Entertainment Baton Rouge.

According to Merrick, guests for the September 9 show include Kamran Abdollahi, SU Ag Center professor of urban forestry who will talk about research findings regarding Baton Rouge's massive tree canopy; Toni Jackson, SUBR College of Business development coordinator, and Gala on the Bluff Sponsorship Committee co-chairs Kimberly Stephens of Business First Bank, and alumnus and local businesswoman Agnes Andrews, who will highlight the 2012 Gala on the Bluff fundraiser for the SUBR College of Business; Broussard, who will bring exciting news about SUBR athletics; and SU alums Roderick Minor and Donnie Rose will share information about their team, "Eclectic Truth," in a recent poetry slam contest.
