Popular blogger and social justice advocate speaking at SU, tonight

Michael Skolnik, co-founder and editor-in-chief of GlobalGrind.com, and political director for hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, will speak at Southern University Baton Rouge.

The popular blogger, activist, and social justice advocate will bring his message of structural racism and insight on current topics to SU in the Global Communications Room in the College of Business on Thursday, October 18, 2012, at 6:30 p.m.

As political director, Skolnik oversees Simmons' entire social justice, political, and semi-political activities. The focus of their work together is based around three core themes: education, poverty, and ignorance.

Skolnik manages the digital media company that promotes an array of content of interest to the hip-hop community from the sources across the Web. The GlobalGrind platform features exclusive blogs, lifestyle material, entertainment news, fashion, music, and politics.

Prior to his work for Simmons, Skolnik spent over a decade as an award winning film director and producer. He is a graduate of the UCLA School of Film, Theater and Television.

"Michael's presentation will feature insightful perspectives from a dynamic speaker that will focus on compelling current issues affecting the nation," said SU System President Ronald Mason Jr.

"We hope this session will inspire further social debate and create conversation to generate ideas to make positive change."

The event is free and open to the public.
