The Southern University System welcomes Monique Guillory-Winfield as the new vice president for academic and student affairs. Guillory-Winfield possesses more than 15 years of experience in higher education administration including her most recent position as an associate with The Barthwell Group, a boutique management-consulting firm based in Detroit, Michigan, with an array of higher education clients.

As the former deputy chief of staff at Jackson State University, Guillory-Winfield was the executive responsible for coordinating Jackson State University's (JSU) first comprehensive strategic plan, "Beyond Survival: The Millennium Agenda for Jackson State University," under then JSU president Ronald Mason Jr. Among Guillory Winfield's strengths is her experience in international education having served as the campus executive administrator for the University of the Virgin Islands, St. Croix, and she is credited with steering the process to establish the first Confucius Institute in the state, and at an HBCU, during her tenure at Xavier University of Louisiana where she served as the special assistant to the administration.

"We are pleased that Monique is at Southern University," said Mason, president of the Southern University System. "She is a dynamic and creative administrator who connects with students and works effectively with faculty and staff. Dr. Guillory-Winfield is a good fit, and will be an important player on the SU team as we continue the transformation to rebuild Southern University as a model 21st century institution of higher learning."

Guillory-Winfield's broad and diverse professional expertise includes assessment, proposal development, enhancing student learning outcomes, retention initiatives, accreditation, and strategic planning.

"I am excited to return home to Louisiana, and to join the SU team to strengthen the University's academic culture, energize its academic offerings, and ensure that all of its students thrive during their time in college and as alumni," said Guillory-Winfield.
