SU gala to raise funding for tuition, scholarships, April 17

Southern University and A&M College is holding its 2014 Centennial Gala at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the L'Auberge Casino and Hotel in Baton Rouge. The event is a fundraiser for scholarships and tuition for deserving SU students.

The cost of the black-tie event is $125 per guest. Featured entertainer is recording artist Regina Belle.

Southern University Chancellor James L. Llorens said the fundraising effort is part of the school's effort "to help students who want and deserve to enroll and remain at Southern, but who may find themselves unable to secure funds for small to moderate fee balances."

In many instances there are students in good academic standing and making satisfactory progress toward their degree.

"I believe we have an obligation to provide as much assistance as we can to keep those students at Southern University," Llorens said.
