SU Shreveport Chancellor Search Committee selects finalists

A Southern University System (SUS) Board of Supervisors' Chancellor Search Committee, at their last meeting, selected three candidates that will be recommended to lead the Southern University Shreveport campus.

The candidates advancing are:

Rodney Ellis, higher education consultant and former chancellor of Central Louisiana Technical and Community College in Alexandria, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa), a master of science from Auburn University (Montgomery), and a doctor of education from the University of Georgia (Athens).

Johnny Moore, vice president student and outreach services, Northeast Texas Community College, has a bachelor of science from Philander Smith College. He holds a master of science from Arkansas State University, and a doctor of philosophy from Florida Institute of Technology.

Boyce Williams, president and chief executive officer, The National Alliance of Learning, Incorporated, has a bachelor of arts from Lincoln University (Pennsylvania), and a master of arts and a Ph.D. from Michigan State University.

"Our efforts to find a new chancellor have been very productive and we are pleased to recommend these candidates to the SU System-President Chancellor for consideration. My thanks to the committee for their hard work and to the University for the opportunity to serve," said Willie C. White III, chief executive officer, David Raines Community Health Centers and chairman of the committee.

The Southern University Shreveport Chancellor Search Committee charged with assisting in selecting a replacement for Ray L. Belton, the former SUSLA chancellor who was named SU System President-Chancellor last June, included from SUSLA:

Levi Brown, SGA president; Larry Ferdinand, executive director for corporate and business development and SU alumnus; S. Albert Gilliam, interim chancellor; Sonya D. Hester, associate professor of English and Faculty Senate president; Brandy Jacobsen interim vice chancellor, finance and administration; Janice Sneed, vice chancellor, Community and Workforce Development and Title III; and Tiffany Williams Varner, director, School of Nursing. Other members of the 13-member SUSLA committee include SU alumni:

Dottie Bell, a retired educator and former SU Board of Supervisors member; retired Caddo District Judge Leon Emanuel; attorney Wendell Piper, president, SUSLA Foundation Board of Directors; E. Jean Ware, a retired educator; and Frank Williams, executive director, SUSLA Foundation. Bell and Gilliam served as co-chairs.

The SUS Board will interview the SUSLA chancellor finalists, at its next meeting, February 19, 2016, in Shreveport.
