SU Hurricane Nate update

The Southern University (SU) System and the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness continue to monitor forecasts and weather announcements related to Hurricane Nate. Extended forecasts include possible Louisiana impact.

The SU System will continue to closely monitor conditions and has activated Emergency Preparedness Teams and initiated preparations to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and the SU community.

The SU Baton Rouge (SUBR) Athletic Department announced that kickoff for today’s football game against Alabama A&M has been moved up to 1 p.m. at A.W. Mumford Stadium. As a result, the homecoming day party has been postponed.

The annual Homecoming Parade has been rescheduled for Saturday, November 4. All entries unable to participate on November 4 will be issued a refund of the entry fee only. Entries that still plan to participate will follow the same protocols previously issued. All inquires and concerns regarding the parade can be forwarded to the SUBR Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment Management via email at studentaffairs@subr.edu.

SUBR Athletics has also postponed Sunday's Southwestern Athletic Conference home soccer match against Alcorn State and home SWAC volleyball contest against Grambling State. Both games will be postponed until a possible makeup date can be determined by the conference office.

SUBR campus tailgating lots opened at 6 a.m. Homecoming game tickets can be purchased at the A.W. Mumford Stadium ticket booth only. The F.G. Clark Activity Center ticket office will not be open, and fans can buy tickets from 9 a.m. until the start of the third quarter.

The start time for the SU System Foundation’s dedication ceremony for the Irving and Darlene Matthews Plaza at the eastside entrance to A.W. Mumford Stadium has been moved up to 8:30 a.m.

The SU Alumni Federation’s Praise and Jazz Brunch scheduled for Sunday, October 8 in Baton Rouge, has been cancelled.

Safe housing and arrangements will be made for all students and residents on the Baton Rouge and New Orleans campuses.

The University encourages everyone to take all safety precautions available when leaving and entering campus. Students who will be remaining on campus are urged not to venture outside during inclement weather.

SUBR will operate an Emergency Operations Center in 218 J.B. Moore Hall. Call 225.771.4500 in case of emergency.

Southern University New Orleans Police Department (SUNOPD) and Housing management will institute a curfew beginning Saturday morning at 10 a.m. for students living in SUNO campus housing. Access to SUNO housing will be limited to current residents only.

All students, faculty, and staff are asked to monitor their University email accounts, the University's social media sites, and local news to get updates and announcements.

Updates and announcements regarding any developments related to weather conditions will be provided via e-mail, on our website (www.sus.edu), and via social, and local media.
