JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Chair of the Department of Languages and Literature (English) provides visionary and collaborative leadership for the English, Philosophy, and World Languages programs, fostering excellence in teaching, research, service, and community engagement. The Chair is responsible for advancing learner success, research, faculty development, and innovative program growth while ensuring alignment with institutional goals and accreditation standards.
JOB DUTIES:
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the department in alignment with the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of the institution.
- Promote academic excellence through curriculum development, innovative teaching practices, and integration of technology, artificial intelligence, and digital tools in learning and research.
- Support student recruitment, faculty recruitment, mentoring, evaluation, and professional development to strengthen teaching, scholarship, and service.
- Foster a collaborative, collegial, and equitable environment that values diversity and promotes belonging for faculty, staff, and students and ensure departmental compliance with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and professional requirements.
- Ensures the timely submission of all requirements, including enrollment verification, progress reports, midterm grades, and final grades. Oversee budget, resource allocation, and departmental operations with transparency and efficiency.
- Encourage and support faculty and students in pursuing research, grants, partnerships, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
- Promote technology literacy, data-informed decision-making, and the ethical use of AI across academic and administrative functions.
- Engage in effective communication with students, faculty, administrators, and external partners to build strong relationships and advance departmental goals. Model ethical leadership, accountability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. in English
- Six or more years of experience
- Record of excellence in teaching, student learning, scholarship/research, and service that merits appointment at the rank of tenured associate professor or higher; and excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
