Job Description:

The Director of Academic Support is responsible for supporting the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs with respect to the Academic Support programs at the Law Center. The Director of Academic Support will provide daily supervision of the Academic Counselors/Instructors and the Unit Coordinator or the Administrative Assistant. The Director of Academic Support will be responsible for the design and implementation of comprehensive academic support programs for law students; developing and supervising workshops on legal analysis, time management, outlining, exam-taking skills, and related topics; organizing and supervising the student advising process of Academic Counselors/Instructors with students; developing material for intervention courses; and collecting data regarding the Academic Support programs at the Law Center. The Director will also oversee the Title III activities and budget for the Academic Support and Counseling programs at the Law Center. The Director of Academic Support will also support the duties of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs by performing other duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all of the job duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member.
  • Oversee the Title III activities and budget for the Academic Support and Counseling programs.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of programs and/or methods of assessing the analytical, critical thinking, and reasoning skills of law students.
  • Responsible for the design and implementation of comprehensive academic support programs for first-year, upper-level, and/or at-risk law students.
  • Coordinates the instruction in academic intervention courses or elective courses for students evidencing academic and/or analytical deficiencies.
  • Coordinates individual counseling sessions in the area of Academic Support.
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate academic success skills into doctrinal and skill-based courses.
  • Serve on academic committees and contribute to institutional policies related to student success.
  • Attend professional development conferences to enhance knowledge of academic success skills and improve Academic Support programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned Doctoral Degree or Juris Doctoral Degree
  • 10 years of experience
  • Specific experience in teaching as a full-time law school faculty member

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An earned Doctoral Degree or LL.M or S.J.D
  • 15 or more years of experience
  • Specific experience in teaching as a full-time law school faculty member and academic support
