JOB DESCRIPTION:

The School of Education at Southern University and A&M College invites applications for a full-time Instructor position in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. The Instructor is responsible for teaching five (5) courses per semester and supporting programmatic efforts aligned with the School’s mission to prepare culturally competent, reflective, and transformative educators. This is a teaching-intensive position with responsibilities that also include curriculum development, accreditation support, student advising, and service.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach five (5) undergraduate and/or graduate courses per semester in areas such as instructional methods, classroom management, curriculum development, educational foundations, and/or content-specific pedagogy. Design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction grounded in evidence-based practices and responsive to diverse learners.
  • Assess student learning, provide timely and constructive feedback, and evaluate performance using appropriate measures. Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit grades and required reports in accordance with university policies.
  • Hold regular office hours and provide academic advising and instructional support to students. Support students’ academic success, professional development, and progression through educator preparation programs.
  • Participate in curriculum development and review to support continuous improvement of academic programs. Assist with accreditation and compliance efforts (e.g., CAEP, LDOE) through documentation, data collection, and faculty collaboration. Support programmatic initiatives aligned with departmental and School of Education priorities.
  • Engage in service activities at the department, School of Education, and university levels. Collaborate with colleagues on departmental initiatives, partnerships, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction to support departmental and School of Education needs.

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Education, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • 3 years of successful P-12 teaching experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and research in STEM education. Evidence of effective teaching at the K–12 and/or higher education level. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Record of scholarly activity, including publications, grants, and external funding. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage faculty, students, and stakeholders.
