JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Full-Time Instructor in Human Nutrition and Food is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and supporting student success within the Human Nutrition and Food Program. This position supports curriculum needs across Nutrition, Health and Wellness and Culinary Arts and Food Management through teaching, academic advising, recruitment, service, and program support activities. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses, maintain regular office hours, advise and mentor students, participate in recruitment and outreach initiatives, assist with maintaining instructional and laboratory spaces, and collaborate with faculty and staff to advance program goals, student learning, retention, and enrollment growth. The position requires a commitment to teaching excellence, student engagement, teamwork, and continuous program improvement. A Master’s degree in Nutrition, Food Science, Public Health, Health Administration, Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or a closely related field is required. Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN), Licensed Nutritionist, and/or ServSafe Certification are considered assets. Teaching experience and experience in nutrition, culinary arts, food management, community health, or wellness programming are also desired.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach a 5/5 course load in Human Nutrition and Food and related disciplines, including courses such as Human Nutrition, Advanced Human Nutrition, Fundamentals of Food, and other nutrition, wellness, culinary, or food management courses as assigned. Prepare and maintain course syllabi, instructional materials, assessments, and maintain regular office hours while providing academic support to students.
- Advise and mentor students to promote academic success, retention, and progression. Participate in recruitment activities, outreach initiatives, and community engagement efforts that support enrollment growth and increase program visibility.
- Serve on departmental, college, and university committees and support departmental programs, initiatives, and special events. Advise student organizations and contribute to activities that enhance the student experience.
- Assist with the maintenance and organization of instructional and laboratory spaces, including preparation of materials and equipment, inventory management, and ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation standards.
- Collaborate effectively with faculty and staff to support coordinated curriculum delivery, program assessment, and continuous improvement efforts. Maintain professional competence through ongoing development and perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree from an accredited institution in Nutrition, Food Science, Public Health, Health Administration, Culinary Arts, Hospitality, or a closely related field.
- One (1) to three (3) years of teaching, industry, or professional experience in nutrition, food science, wellness, culinary arts, hospitality, or a related field is preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Teaching experience in higher education.
- Experience in nutrition education, culinary instruction, food service management, community health initiatives, or wellness programming.
- Professional credentials such as Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN), Licensed Nutritionist, and/or ServSafe Certification.
