JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Academic Advisor supports the academic and personal success of undergraduate students by providing guidance on course selection, academic planning, university policies, and career exploration. This position plays a critical role in fostering student retention, engagement, and success while aligning with the university’s mission to support students in achieving their educational goals.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide comprehensive academic advising by assisting students with educational planning, degree requirements, course selection, registration, and career goal development to support timely degree completion.
- Monitor student academic progress by identifying at-risk students, providing proactive outreach and intervention strategies, and offering specialized support to students on academic probation or returning from suspension.
- Educate students on university policies and resources by providing accurate information regarding academic requirements, institutional policies, and referring students to appropriate campus services, including tutoring, counseling, accessibility services, and other student support programs.
- Conduct individual and group advising sessions by facilitating one-on-one appointments, workshops, registration events, academic fairs, and other student engagement activities that promote academic success and retention.
- Maintain student records and advising documentation by ensuring accurate, confidential records in compliance with FERPA and utilizing student information systems to document advising interactions and student progress.
- Track and analyze advising data by monitoring advising outcomes, retention initiatives, student success metrics, and preparing reports that support continuous improvement of advising services.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus partners to enhance student success initiatives, improve retention and graduation outcomes, and perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Counseling, or a closely related field.
- One (1) to two (2) years of experience in academic advising, student services, counseling, higher education, or a related field.
