JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Poverty Law Clinic Planning and Implementation Coordinator supports the development, implementation, and expansion of the Southern University Law Center's Poverty Law Clinic. Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Legal Education, this position coordinates community outreach initiatives, develops partnerships with legal aid organizations and community stakeholders, assists with clinic operations, and advances access to justice for underserved populations. The Coordinator collaborates with faculty, students, attorneys, and community organizations to create educational programming, expand legal services, and implement strategic initiatives that strengthen the Clinic's impact throughout Louisiana.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate the planning, implementation, and daily operations of the Poverty Law Clinic in support of its mission to expand access to justice for underserved communities.
- Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with legal aid organizations, courts, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and community stakeholders.
- Organize and coordinate legal clinics, community workshops, educational seminars, outreach events, and public legal education initiatives.
- Develop and implement outreach strategies utilizing websites, social media platforms, and other digital communication tools to increase public awareness of clinic services and legal resources.
- Conduct community needs assessments to identify legal service gaps and recommend innovative strategies to improve access to legal assistance.
- Assist in the development of policies, procedures, operational plans, and strategic initiatives supporting clinic growth and sustainability.
- Coordinate communications with faculty, attorneys, law students, volunteers, and community partners to ensure successful program implementation.
- Assist with legal and policy research, data collection, program evaluation, and reporting related to clinic initiatives and grant-funded activities.
- Support grant writing, program development, fundraising activities, and preparation of reports required by funding agencies.
- Coordinate student experiential learning opportunities, including service-learning projects, community-based legal education, and clinic participation.
- Prepare program materials, educational resources, presentations, and promotional content for community engagement activities.
- Monitor program outcomes, maintain records, and prepare reports documenting clinic activities, community impact, and program effectiveness.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school
- One (1) year of professional experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in poverty law, public interest law, clinical legal education, community lawyering, legal advocacy, or legal services for underserved populations.
- Experience developing community partnerships, coordinating legal outreach programs, supervising or mentoring law students, grant-funded initiatives, and strong written and oral communication skills are highly preferred.
