The 2012 Southern University National Alumni Conference is scheduled for July 11-15, 2012 in Atlanta, Georgia. This year's conference, "65 Years of Service and Support to Southern University," commemorates the Southern University Alumni Federation's 65th anniversary of its founding in 1947.

The newly formed 1880 Society of the Southern University System Foundation continues to increase its membership and build a financial support network for the University.

Local business leaders and 1880 Society founding members Jacqui Vines and Richard Lipsey co-chaired, "A Gathering of Friends of the 1880 Society," membership event, June 19, 2012, at the Shaw Center for the Arts in Baton Rouge.

Southern University Shreveport TRiO programs will receive over $9 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant check will be presented during the press announcement Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 10 a.m. in the atrium of the Dr. Leonard Barnes Administration Building which is located on the main Shreveport campus, 3050 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Southern University, Baton Rouge (SUBR) and Education Online Services Corporation are pleased to announce the launch of a new online degree--the Executive Master of Public Administration (EMPA). The online degree is housed within the Department of Public Administration which is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration.

Season books for the upcoming 2012 football season will be available for renewal for existing season book holders on Monday, June 11 at 9 a.m. in the Southern University Ticket Office located in the F.G. Clark Activity Center.

The Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC) and the Southern University (SU) Alumni Federation today announced that they have agreed to a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that will facilitate the promotion of BRAC's talent development program among SU alumni.

Southern University at Shreveport is slated to lose $2,647,305 in state funding if a budget bill, HB1, is not amended by the Louisiana legislature.

As the budget continues to move through the state's legislature, higher educational institutions are expected to see a reduction of more than $200 million in state support. Particularly hard hit are the schools within the Southern University System, the nation's only system of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
