Native Demetrius Sumner is Southern University, Baton Rouge's Student Government Association president and is the student member on the Louisiana Board of Regents.

Shreveport native Randale Scott was officially sworn in as Student Government Association (SGA) president during an inauguration ceremony at Southern University, Shreveport (SUSLA) on September 22.

Southern University, New Orleans' (SUNO) enrollment has risen for the Fall 2010 semester and has reached its highest number since Hurricane Katrina. The University's success comes despite projections that the enrollment would dip below 2,900 students due to new higher admission standards.

Starting in January, juniors and seniors in East Baton Rouge Parish public high schools will be able to earn college credit for a handful of online courses from Southern University.

Southern University head football coach, Stump Mitchell", is inviting the Jaguar Nation Football to be a part of the "Countdown to Kick-Off" event to be held Saturday, August 28,2010 on the Southern University Baton Rouge campus. "Countdown to Kick-Off" will replace "Fan Day".
