Lawrence Jackson, director of the world-renowned Southern University "Human Jukebox" Marching Band, is retiring. The Crowley native has been director of bands on the Baton Rouge campus since 2006.

Representatives of ExxonMobil's Baton Rouge plant presented Southern University with a $66,810 check as a contribution from employees and the company to the Baton Rouge campus.

Several Southern University Shreveport faculty and staff members have been awarded 2013-14 Louisiana Board of Regents Enhancement for Two-Year Institutions grants totaling $254,635.

Southern University and A&M College is holding its 2014 Centennial Gala at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the L'Auberge Casino and Hotel in Baton Rouge. The event is a fundraiser for scholarships and tuition for deserving SU students.

Dr. Andrew A. Ray, Grand Basileus, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, March 19, 2014, presented a $25,000 check to SU System President Dr. Ronald Mason Jr. for an endowed scholarship.

A symposium on "Quality Education as a Constitutional Right and the Role of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)" will be hosted by the Southern University and A&M College System (SUS), the Southern University Law Center (SULC), and the SULC Journal of Race, Gender, and Poverty, in partnership with the Mississippi Freedom 50th Anniversary, Wednesday and Thursday, March 26-27, 2014.

Graduates of the Southern University Baton Rouge Class of 1964 are planning a golden anniversary celebration May 8-9, 2014.

The commemoration will be in conjunction with the University's Centennial Celebration for the Baton Rouge campus. The University was founded in New Orleans in 1880 and was relocated to Scott’s Bluff in Baton Rouge in 1914.

Some campuses and offices of the Southern University System (SUS) in areas affected by Winter Storm Leon reopened Thursday, January 30, 2014.

The Louisiana Board of Regents has approved a letter of intent from Southern University New Orleans (SUNO) to establish a Doctor of Social Work (DSW) Program. The degree program would fulfill a need in the profession and the region for an on-site advanced practice doctoral program in social work.
