In conjunction with Alumni Round-Up 2019, the Class of 1999 will be giving a presentation entitled A Candid Conversation. The event will start at 12 pm on April 5th at the Southern University Law Center. Learn of their experiences and gain practical tips from the Class of 1999.

The talent Southern University Law Center produces follows our alumni wherever they choose to go, and no matter the career path they choose to pursue. Such is true for SULC graduate, Shawnita L. Pettaway. Pettaway was recently recognized as the Holmes Scholar of the Month. As a native of Mobile, AL, and a current Ph.D. Candidate at Auburn University, Pettaway receives this prestigious award in light of her current research focusing on administrative law, higher education law, human resources, public policy, historically black colleges and universities, and the higher education professoriate.

On April 11, 2019, Southern University Law Center alumnus, Hollis T. Lewis II, will officially be sworn into the Magistrate position for Kanawha County, West Virginia, making him the only African-American appointed to one of the 11 Magistrate positions in the entire county. Lewis, who is also the former assistant Kanawha County Prosecutor, was delegated to the new position by Chief Circuit Judge Joann Tabit who stated that “Lewis will be a real asset to the magistrate court in Kanawha County.”

Chancellor John Pierre says it best, Southern University Law Center produces #LawyerLeaders. The saying continues to ring true as more SULC Alumni shine brighter than stars in their legal communities every day.

On February 12, 2019, Chancellor Pierre and Visiting Professor Adam Crepelle visited the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indian Court. The Choctaw Indian Reservation consists of 35,000 acres of trust land scattered over 10 counties in east-central Mississippi.

Jeremy Bazile, an SULC alumni, is a “Best Lawyer” winner! Bazile has been working at the Glenn Armentor Law Corporation for two years, in Lafayette. Bazile has always known that he wanted to be a lawyer since he was a child.

The Southern University System Board of Supervisors today convened for its first meeting of the new year at Southern University Baton Rouge. Atty. Domoine D. Rutledge and the Rev. Samuel C. Tolbert Jr. were installed as the new chair and vice chair, respectively.
