The Southern University System Board of Supervisors met on the campus of Southern University Shreveport for its August meeting. The Board received updates from each of the five campuses — Southern University Baton Rouge, Southern University New Orleans, Southern University Shreveport, Southern University Law Center and Southern University Ag Center. “I want to welcome you back home to the Bluff,” expressed Ray L. Belton, president-chancellor of the Southern University System at the opening of the Southern University Alumni Federation’s biennial conference.

The Southern University System received a resolution for being a trailblazer in the HBCU community from both the Louisiana Senate and House of Representatives during SU Day at the Capitol, held March 28. The resolution stated that the System provides “models of excellence in diversity, education, research, workforce solutions, and universal engagement by embracing its land-grant principle and thereby affecting change in and around the Southern University community.”

At its March 23 meeting during an annual retreat in Loranger, Louisiana, the Southern University Board of Supervisors approved a pilot clean water initiative to be helmed by the Southern University Law Center. Detailed in the Memorandum of Understanding between the Law Center and Apollo Water LLC., the pilot program will give Law Center faculty and students an opportunity to engage in research related to environmental regulation and patent law regulations.

Last week, the SUS Board of Supervisors held their annual retreat. On the agenda were reports on the various colleges and campuses and presentations on new campaigns gearing up. Take a look at the retreat gallery.

The SU Law Center, Friday, September 1, 2017, celebrated 70 years of access and opportunity. Events began Thursday, August 31, where significant contributors were invited to a reception with Chancellor Pierre to thank them for their support of the Law Center.

The June 2017 "Above and Beyond" Award recipient is a familiar face and name to many in and around the Southern University community. Angela Scott Gaines, SU Law Center facilities manager and technical support specialist for the Law Library, was recognized during the SU Board of Supervisors regular monthly meeting, June 16, at Southern University New Orleans.
