Southern University Law Center's 2010-11 Speakers Series will open at noon Friday, September 24, with New York author Gilbert King.

The Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) Family Wellness Fair will be on Wednesday, September 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Health & Physical Education Building at 6400 Press Drive.

The first ever Capital One bank branch in Shreveport's MLK neighborhood opened Thursday September 2.The branch — the first bank ever in that specific area and the only one within a 5-mile radius, is located across the street from Southern University at Shreveport. The school was also part of the team of bring the bank to the area.

Starting in January, juniors and seniors in East Baton Rouge Parish public high schools will be able to earn college credit for a handful of online courses from Southern University.

Two beautification projects designed by LSU and Southern University students to help create a "greener" city were unveiled at a news conference Tuesday, August 31.

Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced the appointment of members to an advisory committee on Beginning Farmers and Ranchers on August 12. Out of the 11 appointees, two are members of the SU Ag Center's Small Farmer Agricultural Leadership Institute. Luciano Alvarado of North Carolina is a graduate of the second class and Frances Benton Gibson of South Carolina is a member of the institute's third class.

Southern University head football coach, Stump Mitchell", is inviting the Jaguar Nation Football to be a part of the "Countdown to Kick-Off" event to be held Saturday, August 28,2010 on the Southern University Baton Rouge campus. "Countdown to Kick-Off" will replace "Fan Day".

Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) Chancellor Victor Ukpolo will receive the 2010 Quintessence Award from the African Writers Endowment, Incorporated on Saturday, August 28, 2010, at the Marriot Trenton Hotel in Trenton, New Jersey.

Tours, food tasting, and welcoming of the new Southern University System President are scheduled activities for the grand opening celebration of the new Johnny L. Vance Jr. Student Activities Center at Southern University, Shreveport (SUSLA). The ceremony will be held on SUSLA's main campus at 3050 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive on August 20, at 11:30AM.

Southern University alumnus Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré (U.S. Army Retired) will speak to students and the public at 11 a.m., August 23 in the Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union. Honoré, the author of two books, will hold a book signing after his presentation.
