The Board of Supervisors of Southern University and Agricultural and Mechanical College System deems the free and open inquiry into all matters fundamental to the mission of higher education and is committed to the preservation of the lawful, free expression of ideas at all public postsecondary education institutions in the state, subject only to reasonable time, place and manner restrictions. All postsecondary institutions of the Southern University System shall allow and protect free speech and First Amendment protected expressive activities by students, administrators, faculty members, staff members and invited guests in accordance with the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America, Article I, Section 7 of the Constitution of Louisiana, all applicable laws, and this Policy.

SUNO anticipates Spring 2011 enrollment to represent 67% post-Katrina increase

Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) preliminary figures for Spring 2011 indicate that the University will once again attain the highest enrollment since Katrina. The preliminary enrollment is currently at 3,409 students. The final official numbers will be confirmed on February 4, which is the final day for tuition payments. SUNO's enrollment is 1,372 students over its post-Katrina level of 2,037 in Spring 2006, representing an impressive 67 percent increase since the storm. Prior to Katrina, SUNO had 3,647 students enrolled, and the current preliminary figures would represent a 93 percent recovery of the pre-Katrina levels.

SU officials respond to flooding in Cade Library; BR campuses open

During recent inclement weather, including extended hard freezes, a major water line supplying chilled water to the mechanical room on the rooftop of the John B. Cade Library on the Baton Rouge main campus ruptured. There is flooding in the building. Please avoid the area while maintenance crews are currently assessing the situation and coordinating remediation and water extraction.

High School students participate in SU School of Nursing Simulation Day (News)
On Friday, the Southern University School of Nursing held its annual Simulation Day for over 150 high school students. “I can’t imagine going anywhere else, besides Southern,” said Devin Crockett, senior nursing student. “Nursing school is challenging, but well worth it. I know that I will be prepared for the workforce.”
