Southern University Baton Rouge, March 9, 2017, observed its annual Founders' Day to celebrate 137 since its establishment as university, and to honor employees celebrating 10, 20, 30, and 40 years of service, and to recognize Southern University alumni who are elected officials throughout the state of Louisiana.

Southern University Baton Rouge (SUBR), March 9, 2017, will host its 137th Founders' Day with activities commemorating its history, honoring employees celebrating 10, 20, 30, and 40 years of service, and recognizing Southern University alumni who are elected officials throughout the state of Louisiana.

A long-time Baton Rouge business law professor and a SUNO Student Support Services director were awarded the first "Above and Beyond” Award presented by the Southern University Board of Supervisors during its regular monthly meeting February 17, 2017.

Southern University (SU) is scheduled to announce the Louisiana Interagency Alliance on Global Workforce Development (ALLIANCE), a collaboration with Louisiana Economic Development (LED) and the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC), Friday, February 17, 2017, during the SU System Board of Supervisors’ monthly meeting. The SU Board of Supervisors meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in the Board Meeting Room, second floor, in the J.S. Clark Administration Building on the Baton Rouge campus.

The Southern University Land-Grant Campus, consisting of the SU Ag Center and College of Agricultural, Family and Consumer Sciences, will host a Medical Marijuana Town Hall Meeting, February 23, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the Southern University Ag Center, A. O. Williams Hall, 181 B. A. Little Drive in Baton Rouge.

Two local chapters of The Links, Incorporated will come together to officially announce a partnership with Southern University through the national organization’s Historically Black Colleges And Universities (HBCU) Initiative, Tuesday, January 31, 2017, 9 a.m., in the Donald C. Wade House on the Baton Rouge campus.

Xernona Clayton, civil rights leader, pioneering broadcasting executive, and founder, president, and CEO of the Trumpet Awards Foundation, Incorporated, and creator and executive producer of the Foundation’s Trumpet Awards, was the guest speaker for the Southern University Baton Rouge Fall 2016 Commencement Exercises, Friday, December 16, 2016, in the F.G. Clark Activity Center.

Leading the 429 fall SUBR candidates for degrees will be top student Laura Syori, who is graduating magna cum laude, with a bachelor of science in engineering from the College of Sciences and Engineering.

The top graduate for Southern University's Fall 2016 Commencement, Laura Syori, was born in Gitega, Burundi, a small country in East Africa about the size of Maryland.

The Southern University (SU) Board of Supervisors, Friday, November 25, 2016, named interim chancellor Lisa Mims-Devezin as chancellor of Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO).

The SU Board of Supervisors also unanimously elected Ann A. Smith as chair, and the Rev. Donald R. Henry, as vice chair for 2017, during its regular meeting held in New Orleans.
