The Southern University Land-Grant Campus will host a Produce Safety Alliance Grower’s Training from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., September 25, 2017 at the SU Ag Center, 181 B.A. Little Drive, in Baton Rouge.

Southern University Shreveport celebrates "Spirit Week" September 19-22, 2017. Several events and activities are scheduled at the main campus on MLK Drive and at the downtown Shreveport campus at 610 Texas Street.

The SU Law Center, Friday, September 1, 2017, celebrated 70 years of access and opportunity. Events began Thursday, August 31, where significant contributors were invited to a reception with Chancellor Pierre to thank them for their support of the Law Center.

Southern University is expanding its footprint to downtown Baton Rouge through a partnership with Mentorship Academy. Entering into its second year, the partners signed a three-year agreement to share space at the Mentorship Academy which is located in a six-story downtown building and in an adjacent annex where additional student services are offered.

SU System campuses are accepting contributions to a special 2017 Texas Flood Fund established by the SU System Foundation.

The Jaguar Nation extends prayers and well wishes for SU students, alumni, and all residents affected by Hurricane Harvey that came ashore in Texas last weekend and continues to generate inclement weather conditions for a vast area of citizens.

Southern University Baton Rouge Student Government Association President Armond C. Duncan, who represents SU System students, was sworn in as a member of the Southern University Board of Supervisors during its regular monthly meeting, August 18, 2017, held at the SU Shreveport campus. Also during the August Board meeting, SUSLA math professor Harolyn Wilson was honored with the August 2017 "Above and Beyond” Award.

Southern University Shreveport, Thursday, August 17, 2017, cut ribbon on the first new classroom building on the main campus since the 1950s. The recently constructed $7.5 million, 36,000-square-foot learning facility is named in honor of the late State Senator Alphonse Jackson, a long-time legislator, community organizer, and Southern University advocate.

2017 "Above and Beyond" Award during the SU Board of Supervisors regular monthly meeting, July 21, on the Baton Rouge campus.

For the second time in two years, the Southern University Baton Rouge (SUBR) College of Nursing and Allied Health claimed a HBCU Award for "Best Nursing Program," and Cheryl Taylor, chairperson, Graduate Nursing Programs, and director, Office of Nursing Research won the "Female Faculty Member of the Year," honor, during an awards dinner, July 14, 2017, at the Gallup Building in Washington, D.C.
