Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) has been named to the 2009 President''s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. The honor was bestowed upon the University by the Corporation for National and Community Service for service to the local communities.

Southern University and A&M College sophomore Ronald Alexander has been awarded the 2010 American Physical Society Scholarship for Minority Undergraduate Physics Majors.

Behind the push of United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., the Senate, late last night, confirmed Stephanie Finley as U.S. Attorney for Louisiana's Western District. Sen. Landrieu recommended Finely for the post in July of last year.

Randale Scott, who serves as SGA president at Southern University at Shreveport, was elected to serve as the 2010-11 student member on the Southern University System Board of Supervisors and Demetrius Sumner, Student Government Association president at SUBR, was recently elected to serve as the student member on the Louisiana Board of Regents (BOR).

Cheryl Taylor, SUBR School of Nursing's director of nursing research, had a national award named in her honor that recognizes her efforts to eliminate disparities in the delivery of healthcare to various racial and ethnic groups.

Ruth W. Johnson, director of SUNO's Educational Talent Search Program, was elected secretary for the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) Board of Directors. The council, based in Washington, D.C., represents TRiO programs which are funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

Judge Vanessa D. Gilmore of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas will deliver the 2010 Commencement address for Southern University Law Center at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 15, in the F.G. Clark Activity Center on the Southern University at Baton Rouge campus.

About 700 undergraduate and graduate students will receive degrees during Southern University and A&M College's Spring Commencement exercise on Friday, May 14 at 10:30 a.m. in the F.G. Clark Activity Center.

Southern University at Shreveport will host its 2010 Spring Commencement Ceremony Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 10 a.m., on the main campus in the Health and Physical Education Complex, 3050 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive.

Mitch Landrieu, mayor of the City of New Orleans and former Louisiana Lt. Governor, will serve as speaker for Southern University at New Orleans' 2010 Commencement, Saturday, May 8, at the UNO Lakefront Arena.
